THE PHILRULZ DICTIONARY

coup: A coup d'état (aka a "physical challenge") occurs when one or more attendees decide to forcibly turn off a movie before it has reached a significant runtime. A coup or physical challenge only qualifies when a non-significant amount of the film has been viewed. A coup d'état does not require a vote. There is no rule against a couped movie being re-shown later in the same festival, though if it is not viewed during that festival it is to be considered purgatoried thereafter. Couped movies do NOT count as an officialy viewed film for the sake of overall counts or the survey. A movie can only be considered couped if its total runtime is less than 10 minutes; otherwise it is to be deemed partially viewed, even if it is turned off via a non-vote physical challenge. In cases where it is unclear whether a movie should be considered couped or partial, the final decision will be made by that year's Voting Chairman.
